U-Hop: The Philippine Ride-Sharing Service Innovation

U-Hop is an app based ride-sharing service designed with Philippine urban commuting conditions in particular. U-Hop was launched in July 2015 and has already applied for a permit to operate with the Land Transport and Franchising Board (LTFRB.

According to U-Hop interim CEO Marvin dela Cruz, U-Hop is designed not to put more vehicles on the road but to optimize the use of the current number of vehicles on the road. Unlike Uber of GrabCar, U-Hop has pooling of passengers in mind unlike the latter services which only have 1 passenger per trip. U-Hop can take up to 7 passengers per trip. This equates to removing 5 – 6 cars on the roads, thus helping in easing traffic congestion brought about by vehicular volume on the roads.

Booking rides is done by registering with the U-Hop system and downloading a mobile app. Fares are paid in advance with roundtrip rides at Php369 a week, while monthly roundtrip passes are Php2,970.00.

Registered members using the app can choose a pick-up point, the time and destination. System generated routes will be available to the passengers that will include pick-up point and destination. This will result in reliable transportation for students and employees that can pick them up from their homes to their schools and office and vice – versa.

This service will initially be available in NCR, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna and Metro Cebu
