Top 10 New Japanese Restos Around the Makati Block

Makati, one of the South districts that have various food choices from upscale food places to hole – in – the wall restaurants that have been checked out from people who have heard recommendations from online media platforms to personal recommendations to personally discovering the place itself without knowing! Whether you’re craving for Japanese food or want to spend some quality time with your family, friends and your loved ones, here are some of the new restaurants that need to be ticked off your list when you visit around Makati.

• Ippudo

This restaurant is known for their Hakata – Style ramen. The place has an overall feel as if you’re being transported to one of the ramen quick eats along the streets of Japan. Ippudo, which literally means a Japanese ramen stall, has become quite a hit not only in Makati, but in other places such as in Quezon City and in SM Mall of Asia from Fukuoka, Japan. They currently opened their newest branch  at the 2nd floor of Greenbelt 5 in Ayala Avenue, Makati City.

• Yabu: House of Katsu

When it comes to katsu, this restaurant has been the first thing in many people’s minds. Yabu offers a variety of katsu sets as well as katsu curry sets that come with miso soup, shredded cabbage salad, fresh fruits, a choice of unlimited brown or white rice, and the sacred Yabu Ritual. Tori Menchi Katsu and Rosu Katsu Curry are my personal choices when it comes to this resto! Opened somewhere in 2015, this place never runs out of hype all over the North and South of the Philippines, and aside from the katsu sets, they also have appetizers and sandwiches such as The Katsu Burger that people would love! They have branches in Glorietta as well at the ground floor of Rockwell Powerplant Mall.

• Ramen Nagi

Ah yes, another ramen place to hype about! The hype started in Mall of Asia, then it branched out to Makati, Alabang and everywhere around the North and South! This place is known for their huge ramen bowls (hence, there’s a King in every ramen flavor) and you also get to customize everything in your ramen from the texture of the noodles to the spice level! If ramen isn’t your thing, there are other choices such as the 7 Spice Karaage, Matcha Karaage, Ebi Tempura, Gyoza, Pork Tonkotsu Roll, and many others! Their Makati branch is located at the 2nd floor of Greenbelt 3.

• Kenshin

If you’re looking for Japanese food where quality and quantity meet, there’s Kenshin! From the place to the food, they speak for themselves when it comes to authentic Japanese food at a reasonable price! Definitely a place where quality meets quantity! I personally recommend trying their Pork Tonkatsu Curry with its authentic curry sauce and delectable meat that comes with a bunch of vegetables and rice. Its Makati branch is in Makati Cinema Square.

• Tsujiri

If you’re a matcha lover like my best friend and I, you’re probably thinking of having Matcha dessert somewhere else that will tick off your Matcha bucket list. But this needs to be looked into because this place literally has everything in Matcha Green Tea! From ice cream to bingsu to floats, Tsujiri has matcha lovers’ hearts full. It’s a high end Matcha café with the place decorated with minimalistic dark green and brown, perfect not only for your Instagram photos, but for a relaxing place while delving into a Matcha wonderland! I personally recommend trying the Matcha Green Tea swirl and the Matcha Green Tea with Vanilla swirl with its rich Matcha Green Tea texture that’ll leave you dreaming for years! This matcha café has branches at the 2nd floor of Greenbelt 5 and in SM Mall of Asia.

• Ono Poke

Now for a Japanese – Hawaiian hole – in – the – wall mix comes in Ono Poke, a little poke bowl restaurant within the hidden corners of Greenbelt 1 in front of David’s Tea House. For the most part, my mom and I love the aesthetics of the place where a cactus would greet you as you sit on their tables while waiting for your order. I personally recommend their Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Spicy Tuna which has brown/white rice and tuna drizzled in nori, spicy mayo and lots of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos! Their poke bowls come in Regular and Large sizes, which can only be compared to the quantity. Overall, this is another Japanese place where quality meets quantity and aesthetics meet good food over a quick time!

• Mendroko Ramenba

Known as the “Reincarnation of Yushoken,” Mendroko Ramenba boasts its famous ramen to the public. Owned and created by Elbert Cuenca and Ryan Cruz, their idea behind their restaurant lies on the authentic Japanese ramen. This place serves around the clock unlimited ramen from 11:00am – 11:00pm at the Ground Floor of V Corporate Center in Salcedo Village. Here’s a friendly tip: Go there a little bit early so that lines won’t be that long because I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a series of long lines for this place! Besides, you can’t say no to unlimited ramen, can you?

• Inagiku
If you like upscale Japanese food in a high end cosmopolitan setting, one shouldn’t miss it right at the 2nd floor of Shang – rila Makati. This high end restaurant boasts its world – class Japanese cuisine right at your table by Chef Hikawa. They have two time sets which are 11:30am – 2:30pm for lunch, and 6:00pm and 10:30pm for dinner. Take note that they have a dress code of Smart Casual, and smoking is prohibited in the said establishment.

• Ooma Sushi Bar
If you need sushi fix, head over to Ooma Sushi Bar located at 136 Paseo Heights, Leviste Street, Salcedo Village. It’s said to be the tiniest and but the most packed sucker punch of flavors everywhere in a cute little aesthetically pleasing place inspired by the famous Tsukiji Fish Market that will let your taste buds transport to Japan. Who could say no to exotic sushi, cooked traditionally or torched, and a cute ambiance into one place? I definitely would check this place out soon!

• Ebi 10
From the modern landmark found in Makati all the way to its real busy streets, this hard – to – find hole – in – the wall is right behind Tambai is located at the heart of Poblacion (Tambai Alley, 5779 Felipe Street to be exact). If you’re looking for the best ebi tmpura served, this place is always jam packed as waiters mill around the corner just for those. But wait, that’s not all! They also have a thing for creating your own ebi tempura combo in a bucket from various flavors. You certainly don’t want to miss this tempura bar experience!

Nevertheless, no matter where you go, you’re never guilty for Japanese food, whether it’s just a table for one sushi and sashimi, Matcha Green Tea or katsu session, or a get together with friends, loved ones and family over ebi tempura, ramen, gyoza, karaage, teppenyaki, or what enjoys you the most. All you gotta do — is to explore and relish every restaurant moment!
